dirrrty pop: Sugababes at Radio 1’s Live Lounge

Oh lookie, its Sugababes 4.0 doing a cover of Florence & The Machine’s Rabbit Heart on Radio 1’s Live Lounge!

Sounds pretty good!

They also performed their new single About A Girl while they were at the studios, complete with a harp. A harp! What I’ve always liked and admired about the Sugababes is how they always seem to take the time and effort to perform acoustic versions of their singles, really showing off their voices and bringing something extra to the song. Their performance of About A Girl was no different, and what I like about this is how different it sounds to the original. However it really seems that Heidi is the glue holding the band together, to me her voice is the only distinctive voice left in the band and she seems to be the one voice left carrying the Sugababes’ trademark harmonies.

What do you think?

Im not sure about it but i dont know if its because i am team keisha?! their voices sound very shrill in parts and i cant tell the difference between amelle & jade yet but maybe thats just because its live, might change on studio songs!

I know what you mean, their voices on Rabbit Heart definitely get a bit shrill and squeaky in parts, but I think that’s just because of the song – have you ever tried singing it? It’s quite hard to sing, especially the chorus, and I’d imagine that doing the harmonies isn’t all that easy!
I do wonder what it would have been like with Keisha still in the band though, but I get the feeling that if she was then they would have covered something completely different…

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
