dirrrrty pop: New Music – LectroLips

LectroLips are a British ‘retronic’ electropop duo who came to the attention of the blogosphere after posting their songs on MySpace in early 2009. Ant and Leo make achingly cool, 80s tinged electro that sounds at once original and familiar – their music sounds like it belongs on the Pet Shop Boys’ greatest hits album, but if possible they’re even more sophisticated and sexy.

As is to be expected when they describe themselves as ‘retronic’, LectroLips sound as if they’ve spent their lives pretending to be David Bowie and attempting to solve Rubik’s Cubes – but thankfully, instead of sounding clichéd and well, shit, like 80s throwbacks tend to do, LectroLips’ actually sound amazing, from the vocodered vocals to the brilliant, dancetastic beats and the luscious synths, LectroLips sound far from an 80s tribute act and instead sound fresh and exciting and more than a little bit poptastic.

Songs like This Record Sound are just crying out to be the soundtrack to your Friday night, and Ordinary Conversation has a delightful bit in it that reminds me of Vogue by Madonna. Vogue! But all sexy and manly and keyboard-y. Yes.

LectroLipsnew EP Exempt From Classification will soon be available to download (for free!)
For now, here’s my favourite of theirs, though my favourite tends to change everytime I listen to their stuff. They’re that good!

Yay! If you go to their MySpace they’ve got more songs up on there. They’re really great! Like, really, I can’t be more enthusiastic about them!
